The Missing Piece in My Heart
Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength! (Nehemiah 8:10)
Father’s Day has always been a day of sadness and mystery for me.
I lost contact with my dad when I was very young. Every Father’s day I think about this man.
What are his likes, dislikes? What traits do I have of his? Does he think about me? Does his heart have a hole, too?
Growing up, I wanted to fill this hole in my heart. Little did I realize back then, the only thing that could fill the hole was God. People couldn’t fill it. Money and things couldn’t fill it. God is the only one who has been able to fill the hole perfectly and completely.
Many times it’s in the broken places that we begin to see life with different eyes. Father’s Day is no longer a day of sadness for me, but one of joy. A day when I celebrate my Heavenly Father. The Father who walks beside me every single day — who blesses me with His love and soothes me with His comforting words of hope. The One who knows every heartache, heartbreak, and sorrow I’ve endured. The One who celebrates every joy and victory with me. The One who says in Deuteronomy 32:10 that I’m “…the apple of His eye.”
This is how the broken pieces become beautiful … when we take the time to dig through the pieces and discover the hidden treasure.
Father’s Day is a day of celebrating my Heavenly Father’s love for me and all that He has done in my life. What about you? I pray if you’re experiencing a hole in your heart today, you, too, will discover the One who can fill it perfectly — His name, Jesus.
With my whole heart,
Diane
